IC Centre for Governance Hosts Group Meeting on AGI and Its Implications for Governance

The IC Centre for Governance (ICCfG) successfully convened a focused Group Meeting on the theme “Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and its Implications for Governance.” The session brought together thought leaders and practitioners to explore how next-generation artificial intelligence can shape the future of public institutions and leadership.

Key Contributions and Thought Leadership

The discussion was anchored around two significant intellectual contributions. Shri Prabhat Kumar presented “Understanding AGI: A Set of Key Questions,” offering a conceptual framework to examine AGI’s capabilities, limitations, and governance-related concerns. His contribution encouraged participants to reflect on the ethical, institutional, and policy dimensions of human-level artificial intelligence.

Complementing this, Shri Anurag Goel authored and presented “AI-Powered Future-Ready Governance: A Journey,” outlining how AI and AGI can support adaptive governance systems. His work highlighted pathways through which intelligent systems can enhance decision-making, improve policy responsiveness, and support ethical, future-ready leadership.

Exploring AGI’s Transformative Potential

The session examined AGI as a transformative force capable of reshaping governance structures. Discussions emphasized how AGI could enable more informed decision-making, data-driven policy formulation, and proactive governance models while underscoring the importance of ethical safeguards, accountability, and human oversight.

Strengthening Capacity Building and Training

Participants also explored the role of AI and AGI in strengthening ICCfG’s training and capacity-building programmes. The dialogue focused on modernizing learning modules through adaptive content, real-time feedback mechanisms, personalized learning pathways, and technology-enabled accessibility. These advancements were viewed as critical to preparing public leaders and institutions for the evolving demands of governance in the digital age.

AGI as a Catalyst for Institutional Evolution

The meeting underscored that AGI should be viewed not merely as a technological advancement, but as a catalyst for institutional evolution and leadership development within public systems. Participants highlighted the need for foresight, ethical governance frameworks, and continuous learning to responsibly integrate intelligent systems into governance practices.

Looking Ahead

The session concluded with a shared commitment to advancing governance preparedness for the age of intelligent systems. The IC Centre for Governance extends its sincere thanks to all participants for their thoughtful engagement and visionary perspectives. Together, ICCfG continues to foster informed dialogue, responsible innovation, and future-ready governance.
